The Man in Black is coming to "Rock Band 3." Harmonix announced in a Thursday blog post that an eight-pack of Johnny Cash songs will be available for download starting January 4.

"Johnny Cash's career spanned a half a century over an array of musical genres," Harmonix said. "He holds numerous Country Music Association Awards, Grammy Awards, and other awards, is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and next week Johnny Cash will make his long-anticipated debut on the 'Rock Band' platform."

The songs included in the pack are "Cry, Cry, Cry," "Don't Take Your Guns to Town," Five Feet High and Rising," "Folsom Prison Blues," "I Got Stripes," "I Walk the Line," "Tennessee Flat Top Box," and "The Ballad of Ira Hayes."

The songs are playable for five-button guitar and bass, drums, keys, harmonies, Pro Keys, and Pro Drums. Harmonix also said it's possible to upgrade to Pro Guitar and Pro Bass for $0.99 on certain songs. Individual tracks are available for download for $1.99 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and for $2 on Wii. The entire pack costs $13.49 on all three consoles.

Harmonix is also releasing a bundle of nine free songs "spanning punk, rock, metal, and indie genres," available for download under the name "Rock Band Free Pack 01."

After being owned by Viacom since 2006, Harmonix went independent late last month, sold for an undisclosed amount to a holding company. Viacom announced the sale in November, after admitting that it could not run a gaming unit.
