“Top student tries showbiz” |
Posted: 30 Aug 2010 11:35 PM PDT By JASER A. MARASIGAN She arrived at the photo shoot holding a textbook, a notebook, and a pen. Emmanuelle Vera may have clinched the biggest break of her young life, appearing as Sarah Geronimo's rival in "Idol," but outside her TV role, she is still the student whose only goal really is to finish school – at the top of her class! "I wasn't allowed at first to get into showbiz. There was a period of preparation, character-wise and school-wise. I wanted to prove to my parents that I was ready for this. I manage my own time. Now they trust that I can do it. I do my homework in between my taping breaks. I study really, really hard and hopefully, I'd still be an honor student because I really want to get good grades," says the junior high school student at St. Paul College. Emmanuelle acts, dances, sings, plays different instruments and writes songs. With talents like these, she likes to experiment and push herself to the limits. She is set to release an album later this year under Universal Records, which contains 10 of her original compositions, plus two cover songs. "I love writing songs. I've written around 30 songs. It is my way of processing my emotions. I don't blow up. I just write a song. One of my favorites is 'Dear Diary,' about a high school sweetheart. It was nothing serious, but it can mean a lot to you at a particular moment," Emmanuelle says. Nerves! "Until I smashed a balut on the head of Sarah Geronimo, that's when I first felt nerves in my life! That was the first scene that we shot and there were no introductions!'' she gushes. Emmanuelle ascertains that being in showbiz allows her to discover things for herself. "I realized that the longer I'm in the business, I familiarize myself with the people, you need to be smart to be an actor because you have to be able to get into a different character sometimes totally opposite from yourself. To be able to put yourself in that mindset, even mannerisms, it takes a lot of thinking and mental preparation, I can say, no good actor is stupid." Likewise, Emmanuelle is well aware of the responsibilities that come with this work. "It's very important for everyone in showbiz or a public figure to be a good example to young people. But I think I will just be who I am and show people that it can come from inside," she ends.
