A former Nevada resident recently made a good showing in a national contest.

Danny Grause, who graduated from Nevada in 1996 and now resides in Ogden, had one of his songs make it up to 25 out of more than 700 selections in a nationwide contest.

Grause said the contest was held by country music stars The Zac Brown Band. "They had a contest for ground-level bands," Grause said. "You sign up for the contest, and whoever won got to go on a cruise with them and play a show," he said.

"I've been doing music in some form since I was about 10," Grause said. He plays shows with a back-up band, going by the name "Uncle Tater." The music can be generally categorized as country.

In addition to the contest, Grause said that he is releasing a 5-song EP soon. "It drops on the Internet and iTunes in October," with the physical C.D.s coming out about a month later, he said.  "I tried to put in a mixed bag of the different types of stuff I do. There's one real tear-jerker ballad, there's one that's kind of 'off the reservation' as far as country goes, there's a real traditional country song and there's one called "The America Song," which is kind of a patriotic anthem. It's a real hodgepodge of stuff that kind of sums up who I am."
